Where Expats Actually Live

No town in Costa Rica is perfect — the person who thrives in Uvita's jungle heat would last about a week in Escazú's prices, and vice versa. This is the honest mover's comparison on climate, cost feel, and community, so you can scout the right two towns instead of touring twelve.

Good to know

  • Climate is the real filter. Atenas and Grecia are spring-like year-round; the South Pacific is hot and humid. Visit your shortlist in the rainy season before committing.
  • Escazú and Santa Ana are the premium play — the best private schools and infrastructure in the country, with prices to match.
  • Grecia and Sarchí stretch the dollar with real Tico towns, genuine sodas, and craft traditions — less polished, more Costa Rica.
  • Uvita and Dominical are the growth corridor — stunning and fast-appreciating, but the seasonal rains and remoteness are real tradeoffs, and some roads want an SUV.
