Corcovado: Sirena vs El Tigre Day Tour

Everyone asks me the same question before Corcovado: Sirena or El Tigre? Here's my honest answer — plus how Puerto Jiménez boat logistics and Christmas-week crowds actually work, so you book the right tour the first time.

Good to know

  • Corcovado is guide-mandatory — you cannot enter the park without a certified guide, and day tours must be booked in advance.
  • Sirena tours typically leave by boat from Drake Bay; the El Tigre and La Leona sectors run from the Puerto Jiménez side. Your base picks your tour.
  • Christmas and New Year sell out weeks ahead. Book early and get the 48–72h cancellation policy in writing — not a verbal promise.
  • It's a jungle, not a zoo — wildlife shows up on its schedule, so early starts are the real secret.
My take: “Sirena is the wildlife play — flat trails, station-based, most animals per hour. El Tigre is the hike itself — waterfalls, ridges, tougher legs. Christmas books out early; confirm your 48–72h cancellation in writing.”
