All Things Río Celeste

The water is really that blue — a mineral reaction where two streams meet, not a filter. But most people bungle the logistics: the park is a real hike with no swimming allowed, so the smart play is knowing how the tubing float, the park trail, and Bijagua fit together.

Good to know

  • The color is real — a mineral reaction where two streams meet — but heavy rain washes it out. Check conditions before driving out.
  • No swimming inside the park. If you want to get in the blue water, book the tubing float on the river outside the park instead.
  • From La Fortuna it's a doable day trip; overnight in Bijagua if you want the hanging bridges too. Trailhead parking is remote, so keep luggage out of sight.
  • Proper shoes are non-negotiable — the trail is muddy even in dry season.
