All Things Playa del Coco

Coco is the town the resort brochures don't show you — a real working beach town where people actually live, eat, and get things done. Thirty minutes from Liberia airport, walkable, affordable by Gold Coast standards — and the best base for sportfishing and boat days in the Papagayo Gulf.

Good to know

  • Coco is a lived-in town, not a resort — supermarkets, banks, and sodas sit alongside the tourists, which is exactly the appeal.
  • It's the practical base for sportfishing and boat trips in the Papagayo Gulf — marina access without resort prices.
  • Hermosa (this one, not Jacó's) is the calm swimming beach 10 minutes north; the Papagayo coves are the postcard side, pricier by nature.
  • The Four Seasons–Andaz–Secrets strip is 20–30 minutes away — easy to visit for a splurge day, no need to sleep there.
