All Things Nosara

If your trip looks like morning surf lesson, midday smoothie, afternoon yoga — stop shopping around, that’s Nosara. It’s Guanacaste’s wellness-and-beginner-surf capital, and the reason it keeps winning comparisons against Santa Teresa (too hectic for some) and Sámara (too sleepy for others).

Good to know

  • This is a surf school town, not a party town. Nosara’s beginner breaks and yoga-shala-per-block rhythm are the draw. If you want nightlife, Santa Teresa fits better — if you want sleepier and cheaper, that’s Sámara.
  • The road in is real. An SUV is the honest recommendation for Nosara-area stops — the dirt access roads are part of the deal here.
  • Ostional’s arribadas are the wildlife event. One of only seven mass olive-ridley nesting beaches on Earth, June–December — go with a certified guide and prepare to be humbled.
  • Playa Rosada is a tide-chart errand. The pink-sand walk from South Guiones takes 40–60 minutes each way and is only passable at low tide — time it wrong and the rocks trap you until the next low tide. Bring everything; there are no services.
